Interference Reduction in Multi-Cell Massive MIMO Systems II: Downlink Analysis for a Finite Number of Antennas

چکیده
Sharing global channel information at base stations (BSs) is commonly assumed for downlink multi-cell precoding. In the context of massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems where each BS is equipped with a large number of antennas, sharing instant fading channel coefficients consumes a large amount of resource. To consider practically implementable methods, we study in this paper interference reduction based on precoding using the large-scale fading coefficients that depend on the path-loss model and are independent of a specific antenna. We focus on the downlink multi-cell precoding designs when each BS is equipped with a practically finite number of antennas. In this operation regime, pilot contamination is not the dominant source of interference, and mitigation of all types of interference is required. This paper uses an optimization approach to design precoding methods for equal qualities of service (QoS) to all users in the network, i.e.,maximizing the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratios (SINRs) among all users. The formulated optimization is proved to be quasi-convex, and can be solved optimally. We also propose low-complexity suboptimal algorithms through uplink and downlink duality. Simulation results show that the proposed precoding methods improve 5% outage rate for more than 10 times, compared to other known interference mitigation techniques. Interference Reduction in Multi-Cell Massive MIMO Systems I: Large-Scale Fading Precoding and Decoding
A wireless massive MIMO system entails a large number (tens or hundreds) of base station antennas serving a much smaller number of users, with large gains in spectralefficiency and energy-efficiency compared with conventional MIMO technology. Until recently it was believed that in multicellular massive MIMO system, even in the asymptotic regime, as the number of service antennas tends to infini...

In this work, we consider the downlink of a multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system and find the jointly optimal number of base station (BS) antennas and transmission powers that minimize the power consumption while satisfying each user’s effective signal-to-interference-andnoise-ratio (SINR) constraint and the BSs’ power constraints. Different from prior work, we consider a pow...

In this work, salient characteristics of a wireless communication system deploying a great number of antennas in the base station (BS), namely Massive MIMO system, are investigated. In particular, we found a simple and meaningful relationship that corroborates a fundamental assumption in recent related works: according the number of BS antennas N grows, the product of the smallscale fading chan...
متن کاملMassive MIMO Inspired 2-Stage Design of the Multi-Cell Multi-User MIMO Downlink
The Interfering Broadcast Channel (IBC) applies to the downlink of (cellular and/or heterogeneous) multi-cell networks, which are limited by multi-user (MU) interference. The interference alignment (IA) concept has shown that interference does not need to be inevitable. In particular spatial IA in the MIMO IBC allows for low latency. However, IA requires perfect and typically global Channel Sta...

Massive MIMO technique offers significant performance gains for the future of wireless communications via improving the spectral efficiency, energy efficiency and the channel quality with simple linear processing such as maximum-ratio transmission (MRT) or zero-forcing (ZF) by providing each user a large degree of freedom. In this paper, the system performance gains are studied in a multi-cell ...
